A book devoted to the history of French housing estates. Three architects: Le Corbusier, Émile ‘Aillaud and Ricardo Bofill mark three gilded moments in the the twentieth century. Their projects contain an apartements for the masses: from the normative, modern conception of Le Corbus (formulated already in the period between the Creative and after 1945) , through the ideas of Aillaud, who incorporated architectural decoration into the modernist model (in the 1960s and 1970s), to postmodern estates designed by Bofill in France (in the 1980s). By analyzing the social and aesthetic concepts of the presented solutions, the author tries to undermine the vision of mass housing as an auxiliary functionalistic material. Various popular themes of meaning: decorations, references and quotes with the current movement in social architecture from the 18th century, presenting the discussion about the multi-family model block as a discussion about a work of art. These elements - seemingly very different - discussed concepts of housing estates.
