The aim of the com­pe­ti­tion is to obtain the best concept for the re­de­vel­op­ment and ex­ten­sion of the Museum of Ar­chi­tec­ture in Wrocław.

MAIN OB­JEC­TIVES OF THE EX­PAN­SION AND MOD­ERN­IZA­TION OF THE MUSEUM OF AR­CHI­TEC­TURE IN WROCLAW:

Im­prov­ing the in­fra­struc­ture and bring­ing it up to modern standards

The project in­cludes mod­ern­iza­tion of ex­ist­ing spaces and ac­qui­si­tion of new ones, which will create mul­ti­func­tional public and ed­u­ca­tional areas, as well as modern spaces for per­ma­nent and tem­po­rary ex­hi­bi­tions. The mod­ern­iza­tion will also include the cre­ation of modern storage fa­cil­i­ties, as well as a dig­i­ti­za­tion and con­ser­va­tion lab­o­ra­tory, es­sen­tial for the further de­vel­op­ment of the museum’s col­lec­tion and operations.

Pro­mot­ing ac­ces­si­bil­ity and inclusion

The mod­ern­iza­tion will take into account the prin­ci­ples of uni­ver­sal design to ensure full ac­ces­si­bil­ity for people with dis­abil­i­ties and other groups with special needs. The project in­cludes elim­i­nat­ing ar­chi­tec­tural bar­ri­ers and adapt­ing the tour routes, which will allow every­one to con­ve­niently enjoy the museum’s offer.

Strength­en­ing the ed­u­ca­tional and social role of the museum

The Museum of Ar­chi­tec­ture is com­mit­ted to pro­vid­ing expert guid­ance, fa­cil­i­tat­ing re­spon­si­ble en­gage­ment, and fos­ter­ing both formal and in­for­mal di­a­logue about ar­chi­tec­ture. The mod­ern­iza­tion will create new ed­u­ca­tional and work­shop spaces that will fa­cil­i­tate classes, work­shops, and cul­tural events, en­gag­ing the local com­mu­nity and visitors.

Sus­tain­abil­ity and green solutions

The mod­ern­iza­tion of the museum will be carried out in ac­cor­dance with the prin­ci­ples of sus­tain­able de­vel­op­ment and the Eu­ro­pean Green Deal. The project entails the im­ple­men­ta­tion of mea­sures aimed at re­duc­ing energy con­sump­tion, min­i­miz­ing adverse en­vi­ron­men­tal impacts, and en­hanc­ing bio­di­ver­sity in the museum’s vicinity.

Strength­en­ing the museum’s in­ter­na­tional position

The Museum of Ar­chi­tec­ture in Wroclaw is un­der­go­ing a process of mod­ern­iza­tion and ex­pan­sion with the goal of be­com­ing one of the most promi­nent museum in­sti­tu­tions in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. The project aims to re­in­force the Museum’s po­si­tion as a thought leader, a pro­po­nent of high-qual­ity ar­chi­tec­ture, and an or­ga­ni­za­tion that cham­pi­ons Polish ar­chi­tec­ture on the global stage.

Pre­serv­ing and pro­tect­ing valu­able his­tor­i­cal exhibits

The mod­ern­iza­tion of the Museum of Ar­chi­tec­ture in Wroclaw is aimed at pre­serv­ing the unique value of the late Gothic Bernar­dine complex, which is one of the museum’s most valu­able ex­hibits. The work will be carried out with the utmost care to protect the his­tor­i­cal sub­stance, in­te­grat­ing new ar­chi­tec­tural el­e­ments in a way that re­spects the orig­i­nal structure.
