How to search?
The Wroclaw Construction Archive website provides digitized and described in three languages architectural designs, plans, maps and photographs. Because the process of developing and digitizing the archives is still ongoing and new records are added gradually, it may happen that the search engine does not provide the desired result. In this case, please contact the Contruction Archives reading room: tel. +48 71 347 16 96 ext. 335, or czytelnia@ma.wroc.pl.
Searching items is done similarly to the same process in a web browser. As you type your search, tips will appear that can help in finding a given building or person.
The main search criterion is the address of the property. Enter the street name and house number (e.g. Czarnieckiego 28). The browser will display all developed items that appear at this address in the collection of the Construction Archive. After clicking on an item, you will see a detailed description of the design and its reproduction or a folder with downloadable materials. The information and materials can be downloaded in a pdf format or requested for review in the reading room. Looking for a specific work of an architect, you have to first enter his last name, then first name (e.g. Berg Max, Effenberger Theodor). If you don’t know the first name of the architect, you can enter the last name only, but the results will be less accurate (e.g. apart from Berg, also Berger will be displayed, etc.).
The browser allows for a wide range of search. In addition to addresses and names, it is possible to search for more general categories (e.g. a corner, plan, gazebo, photograph, picture) or the author’s profession (e.g. Maurermeister, architect). We hope that this way of making the collection available will facilitate finding the archive items of your interest. In case of any problems with the search engine, please contact the Building Archive reading room: tel. +48 71 347 16 96 ext. 335, or czytelnia@ma.wroc.pl.
