The aim of the competition is to obtain the best concept for the redevelopment and extension of the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław.
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE EXPANSION AND MODERNIZATION OF THE MUSEUM OF ARCHITECTURE IN WROCLAW:
Improving the infrastructure and bringing it up to modern standards
The project includes modernization of existing spaces and acquisition of new ones, which will create multifunctional public and educational areas, as well as modern spaces for permanent and temporary exhibitions. The modernization will also include the creation of modern storage facilities, as well as a digitization and conservation laboratory, essential for the further development of the museum’s collection and operations.
Promoting accessibility and inclusion
The modernization will take into account the principles of universal design to ensure full accessibility for people with disabilities and other groups with special needs. The project includes eliminating architectural barriers and adapting the tour routes, which will allow everyone to conveniently enjoy the museum’s offer.
Strengthening the educational and social role of the museum
The Museum of Architecture is committed to providing expert guidance, facilitating responsible engagement, and fostering both formal and informal dialogue about architecture. The modernization will create new educational and workshop spaces that will facilitate classes, workshops, and cultural events, engaging the local community and visitors.
Sustainability and green solutions
The modernization of the museum will be carried out in accordance with the principles of sustainable development and the European Green Deal. The project entails the implementation of measures aimed at reducing energy consumption, minimizing adverse environmental impacts, and enhancing biodiversity in the museum’s vicinity.
Strengthening the museum’s international position
The Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw is undergoing a process of modernization and expansion with the goal of becoming one of the most prominent museum institutions in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. The project aims to reinforce the Museum’s position as a thought leader, a proponent of high-quality architecture, and an organization that champions Polish architecture on the global stage.
Preserving and protecting valuable historical exhibits
The modernization of the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw is aimed at preserving the unique value of the late Gothic Bernardine complex, which is one of the museum’s most valuable exhibits. The work will be carried out with the utmost care to protect the historical substance, integrating new architectural elements in a way that respects the original structure.

- Kamil Kowalski - accessibility expert, director of Integracja LAB and Expert Services Department at the Integracja Foundation
- Alicja Wodzinska - representative of the Museum team, curator and head of the Department of Photographic Documentation at the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw
Awards:
- First Prize - 50,000 PLN gross and an invitation to negotiate a sole-source contract for the performance of a service based on the selected competition work
- Second Prize - 40,000 PLN gross
- Third Prize - 30,000 PLN gross
- two special mentions - 15,000 PLN gross each
