Night of Museums 2016 in Museum of Architecture

Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw invites you to a unique journey in time that will take you to the 1920’s and 1930’s. The exhibition “A way to modernity”, one of the most important events undertaken as part of the architectural program of the European Capital of Culture Wroclaw 2016, presents all the experimental Werkbund housing estates - Weissenhof, Nový Dům, WuWA, Neubühl, Lainz, Baba - in one place for the first time. They were an expression of the belief that in a modern, democratic world it is possible to meet the housing needs of the population and thus create a new society, conscious of its choices. You will be able to see the historical plans, architectural designs and documents, models of all the estates and individual houses, as well as archival and contemporary photo documentation, original furniture, interior elements and domestic appliances. This is a unique opportunity to see the original design of a kitchen, dining room and living room from Neubühl estate in Zurich, bedroom furnishings from estates in Brno and Stuttgart, and lamps, dishes and toys from Baba estate in Prague.

On the Night of Museums children and adults are invited to take part in a family game called “The Cat of Le Corbusier” . Participants will try to solve the riddle while touring the exhibition “A Way to Modernity” - the solution of which will be hidden among the exhibits on display. We invite all of our guests - and the youngest and those a little older - to dress in the style of the era.

We also invite you to see the exhibition “Polska. Architecture”. It presents 24 newly built or restored buildings, portrayed by the most outstanding Polish photographers of architecture. The photos of architecture are accompanied by reportage pictures, sketches, drawings and quotations, showing the selected structures in the context of important Polish historical events, often reminding about the activities of prominent figures they are dedicated to. Which of these will gain Your approval? During the Night of Museums our Guests will vote for the finest Polish building of the last two decades.
