Mycelium, hidden beneath the soil, inside dead branches and within plant tissues, spreads to form an extensive, almost boundless network. Its fine threads carry energy, information and nutrients, connecting seemingly separate organisms into a single system. It is through these invisible relationships that ecosystems are able to regenerate, adapt and endure.

The Mycelium exhibition leads us towards what usually remains hidden. Here, mycelium appears not only as a biological organism, but also as a metaphor for a reality woven from interdependencies. In an age of climate crisis, social fragmentation and rapid technological change, we are increasingly aware that no entity exists in isolation. Beneath the visible surface of the world, a continuous exchange is taking place – quiet, dispersed and without a single center.

Mycelium enters into a dialogue between the geometric order of architecture and the organic, fluid, and unpredictable morphology of mycelium. Here, mycelium is not a passive material subordinated to the designer, but an active participant in the creative process. Imperfection, irregularity, and variability cease to signify flaws – they become evidence of life. Architecture is no longer perceived as an autonomous, immutable object, but as part of living systems and networks of interdependence.

Mycelium becomes a symbol of a different order: cooperation instead of domination, circulation instead of exploitation, regeneration instead of depletion. It reminds us that what matters most is not always visible.

The exhibition is based on research developed at the Mycelium Metamorphosis Laboratory at the Faculty of Architecture of Poznan University of Technology, led by Agata Bonenberg, Teofil Jesionowski, Maciej Sydor, Anna Lewandowska, Bartosz Gapiński, Michał Wieczorowski, Jakub Zdarta, Agata Zdarta, Julia Szulc, and Zofia Ziembicka.
