The Wroclaw Academy of Fine Arts and Design along with the Museum of Architecture would like to invite you to an exhibition presenting the artistic achievements of one of the most important artists of Polish design, interior and furniture designer, a member of Warsaw’s “Ład” Artists Cooperative, as well as the founder and longtime dean of the Interior Design Department of the State College of Fine Arts in Wroclaw.
Wincze’s designs included interior designs of, among others, the Central Folk Crafts Store in Warsaw (1939), Fashion House (1950-1951), the office of prof. Ludwik Hirszfeld (1951-1953), “Pod Arkadami” bookshop and a nearby florist’s in the Kościuszko Housing District (1956-1958), the Rozmaitości Theatre (1957-1958), the cafe of the Creative Unions Club (1961-1963), Rector’s office and Senate meeting room of the State College of Fine Arts (1963 ), The Registry Office (1964-1966) and the “Reduta” cafe (1974) in Wroclaw.
The most prominent feature of Wincze’s artistic work was his passion for highlighting and exposing the often unobvious or hidden properties of the designed equipment. The artist’s showcase was to emphasize the natural decorative qualities of wood while carefully maintaining a clear structure of the object. The exhibition will present furniture, designs and archival photos from the collections of the Wroclaw Academy of Fine Arts and Design, the National Museum in Warsaw, the National Museum in Krakow, the Mazovian Museum in Płock, the Polish UNESCO Committee, the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences as well as private collections.
