Józef Hałas (1927 - 2015)

Painter, professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, member of the Wroclaw Group. His compositions are rhythm and symmetry-based abstract landscapes that synthesise colour and matter, inspired by the landscapes of his childhood. He wrote about life, art and the nature of the world (including the book „Poradnik dla asystenta” [The Assistant’s Guide]). He was inspired by nature. A master of colour and painting structure.

He took part in more than three hundered solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad. He was the winner of many honours, including the Medal for Merit to Culture-Gloria Artis. His works can be found in many collections, both institutional and private, the largest of which is at the National Museum in Wroclaw.
