Creative activities of artists and architects at the crossroads of various scientific disciplines and often in collaboration with representatives of science as well as natural, social or humanistic sciences, touch upon problems associated with the challenges of present-day civilization. When dealing with a research process, the innovative use of technical media affects the expansion of the boundaries of human perception, experience and knowledge.

The starting point of the presentation at the Museum of Architecture in Wrocław is the growing use of 3D printing technology in artistic and design practice. Creators are rapidly adopting new possibilities by applying them directly or by modifying the tool, in such a way that the field of experimentation may be both a device, matter and software. The 3D printing technology is used by researchers from numerous disciplines. When used creatively, this method is often the best possible solution in research and development projects of significant practical importance. All the featured projects have been developed by visual artists and architects. Some of them remain in the realm of concept while others have been materialised, although one gets the impression that some of them refer to the realities of the imaginary and futuristic world. Without a doubt, they balance „in between”. For example, in a strikingly beautiful object, one can see a reconstruction of a brain deformed by a disease (the solid was created using an innovative method, a few months ago it contributed to saving the life of a little girl).

The 3D printing may be the technology of the immediate future in architecture with the use of appropriate materials and nature-based mechanisms. The problem of sustainability and design is already being addressed by artists, as presented in the exhibition through ideas and specific projects.

Furthermore, in the context of an ecological approach to creating, the possibility of stopping the process of creating a project at the digital stage, including the possibility of avoiding overproduction is of great importance and it also has an ethical dimension. Not only the artists but also the contemporary society (ourselves) are confronted with the opportunities previously unavailable to man in the face of which it is necessary to develop new reactions, new concepts, that are still based on humanistic values and concern for the environment. The works presented at the exhibition are evidence that the creative activity of artists and architects is mediated between the scientific experimentation, the experience generated by new technologies and the social reception and adaptation.
