In the first part of the publication, “The eschatological realism of the Russian symbolist Vasily Kandinsky”, we learn about the artistic and theoretical activity of Vasily Kandinsky, especially the artist’s relations with the circles of Russian symbolists and the association Mir Iskusstwa, which defined his work, and the iconographic analysis revealed its new themes.

The second part of “Der Blaue Reiter: totemism and avant-garde” is an analysis of the group’s activity, using the anthropological concept of totemism. The author discusses the ethnographic interests of Vasilij Kandinski and Franz Marc, the primitive dimension of life in Murnau and Sindelsdorf, the vision of creativity in Kandinski’s publications and models of objectless and animal images. They created a kind of totemic clan, using the blue rider as a totem.
